SUPREME Partners meet in Athens, Greece
- 19/02/2026
On 17–18 February 2026, the SUPREME consortium met in Athens, Greece, for its first in-person meeting of 2026, kindly hosted by the greek partners National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Νational Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and Orykton.
The meeting took place in the historic district of Plaka, at the Athens University History Museum — the building where the first university of Athens was established after the liberation from the Ottoman Empire. This inspiring setting provided the perfect backdrop for two days of scientific exchange, strategic discussions and forward planning.
Reviewing Key Progress
Since its launch in January 2023, the SUPREME project has made significant progress in:
-
Producing novel nanoparticles
-
Preparing and optimising antimicrobial nanocoatings
-
Establishing bespoke testing methods for antimicrobial effectiveness
-
Characterising the physico-chemical properties of the coatings
-
Consolidating toxicological evaluation protocols
-
Strengthening links between scientific development and end users
-
Disseminating research findings
The meeting was a key milestone to review these achievements, assess ongoing activities across work packages and align on priorities for the next phase of the project.
Day 1: Scientific Reporting and Cross-WP Discussions
The first day opened with a welcome from NKUA and the project coordination team, followed by detailed reporting sessions from several work packages. Partners presented their latest results, discussed challenges encountered and identified areas requiring further collaboration.
A dedicated Intra/Inter Work Package discussion session enabled in-depth exchanges between partners, ensuring coordination of activities and alignment of technical objectives. The day concluded with a consortium dinner, strengthening collaboration in a more informal setting.
Day 2: Upscaling, Commercialisation and Forward Planning
The second day focused on financial upscaling and commercialisation pathways, with a dedicated workshop addressing future exploitation and market uptake strategies.
The consortium also welcomed feedback and Q&A from the Project Officer, providing valuable external insights into progress and next steps.
Further reporting sessions continued throughout the day, culminating in a forward-looking planning segment in which each Work Package leader outlined priorities for the next six months. The meeting concluded with a summary session and farewell remarks.
Moving Forward
The meeting reinforced the strong collaboration within the SUPREME consortium and confirmed the project’s steady progress towards delivering innovative, sustainable antimicrobial nanocoatings.
With clear objectives defined for the next reporting period, the partners leave Athens aligned, motivated and ready to advance the next phase of the project.
