Consortium

The SUPREME Consortium consists of 14 beneficiaries from 5 EU countries (IT, ES, GR, BE, NL), 1 associated country, NO, and 4 associated partners from UK. The consortium assembles leading research groups with excellent skills, track record, and resources, in a coherent and complementary arrangement. The multidisciplinary project team covers all expertise required to professionally implement a programme for the development of innovative and sustainable nanocoatings, their validation considering efficiency, safety, durability, and suitability for several industrial settings. The project coordinator is the KU Leuven (Belgium) in charge of the project’s coordination for a duration of 4 years. The project started on 1st of January 2023 and will run until 31 of December 2026.

COORDINATOR

KUL - KU LEUVEN

KU Leuven has been a centre of learning for nearly six centuries, making it one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Europe. The BioTeC+ group has a long standing (>25 years) reputation in two of the main scientific domains within this project: i) microbiology and ii) modelling and optimisation of (bio)chemical processes. KUL brings knowledge and competences on both concepts and techniques from mathematical modelling and systems and control, as well as detailed microbiological/biochemical expertise. The assessment of the antibacterial efficiency of nanocoated materials are the core know-how of the team.  

PCN - FOTO-KATALYTIKA NANO YLIKA I.K.E.

Photo-Catalytic Nano Materials ΙΚΕ is a spin-off of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas based in Heraklion. The company is  producing novel high-performance photocatalytic materials operating under the influence of solar and/or artificial(indoor) lighting, proved effective both on improving indoor/outdoor air quality and on the disinfection of bacteria, viruses, phages, etc at health-sensitive areas. PCN offers expertise in developing tailor-made eco-friendly innovative photocatalytic materials for various applications.

NTUA - ETHNICON METSOVION POLYTECHNION

The National Technical University of Athens is the most prestigious educational institution of Greece in the field of technology. Participating with two different labs from the School of Mining Engineering and Metallurgy and the School of Chemical Engineering, NTUA offers expertise in synthesis and characterization of novel core/shell nanostructures and nanocoatings.

NKUA - ETHNIKO KAI KAPODISTRIAKO PANEPISTIMIO ATHINON

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), officially founded in April 14th, 1837, is the first University not only of Greece but both the Balkan peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean region. Participating with the Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Food Chemistry , NKUA offers expertise in the assessment of the antifungal properties of nanoparticles and the characterisation of the mode of action.

NTNU - Norwegian University of Science and Technology

NTNU is a Norwegian university with an international focus and a main profile in science and technology, a variety of programmes of professional study, and academic breadth. NTNU has strong expertise on tribologymore than 15 years experience in Tribology and has established the Norwegian Tribology Center together with SINTEF providing basic to applied research services in Tribology across the country. NTNU has a very well-equipped tribology lab and other advanced surface analysis techniques covering testing scales from nano-to-macro. Our areas of expertise range from lubricant formulation and testing, but also materials integrity, durability and degradation.

NTT is a private RTO established in Italy since 1972. NTT represents a reference point for research and technological innovation in the textile sector in Italy. NTT is actively involved in research and demonstration projects on textile processing and textile machinery design realised at regional, national and European level.

WU - WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is a partnership between Wageningen University (WU) and Wageningen Research (WR). The chair group of Toxicology (WU-TOX) has a long track record in toxicological research and training. The WU-TOX research concentrates on gaining insight in mechanisms via which toxic compounds and materials induce adverse effects on the health of humans and on the environmental organisms.

The Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and the Environment is a governmental research and knowledge institute providing policy support to the Dutch Government and is involved in standard setting and regulations. The RIVM will be leading the work on inhalation toxicology using existing yet state-of- the art infrastructure for exposing cell cultures to aerosols of particles including advanced physicochemical characterization, the so called air-liquid interface exposure systems in close cooperation with WU - WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY.
