SUPREME will be represented at the workshop “How coatings support circularity of materials”

  • 02/10/2026

On 13 October 2026, SUPREME Co-Coordinator Prof. Zhenyu Zhang from the University of Birmingham will participate in the workshop “How Coatings Support Circularity of Materials”, in Mons, Belgium. The event will bring together researchers and industry experts to explore recent advances in coatings and their contribution to material circularity, covering topics ranging from glass and textile recycling to recycled-material formulations and bio-based alternatives.

As part of the morning session “R&D point of view: recent developments in advanced coatings,” Prof. Zhang will give a presentation on “The use of renewable (bio-based) materials to formulate multifunctional coatings.”

The topic is closely connected to SUPREME’s research, which includes the development of sustainable and multifunctional antimicrobial nanocoatings and explores the use of bio-based cellulose materials in combination with nanoparticles.

Prof. Zhang and the University of Birmingham play a key role in SUPREME’s research activities, contributing expertise in formulation engineering and surface and interface characterisation.

Participation in events such as this workshop provides an opportunity to share SUPREME expertise with the wider materials and coatings community and to exchange knowledge on how innovative coating technologies can contribute to more sustainable and circular material solutions.
